The FIFA World Cup 2010 - yes please.

And it's kicked off.
I never am one to really commit to a sport that only requires a mean round-house kick or something to attain points, but I do really get into shit like this. It's too damn exciting not to.
Naturally I will be wielding my Aussie flagpole during the weeks ahead, shouting the roof off, cheering with my compatriots for the Socceroos to keep me entertained.
My love for this particular tournament stemmed from the '06 World Cup four years before. The Australian soccer team received much media attention upon endeavouring to represent the country on the world stage of futball. And rightfully so - they were talented, good looking and had potential to make Aussies look like a serious nation as a whole.
Match after match, it appeared that the Socceroos were climbing up the ladder triumphantly and almost with ease. They carried an entire nation's hopes on their backs and in doing so, a bout of strength surged through each of them. Then came the match against Italy.
EVERYBODY in the effing free world knew that after that game, all respect was lost for Italy's soccer team, the referees, and everyone involved in the orchestration of one of Australia's most devastating loss in the tournament's history. My world crashed at approximately 2 o'clock that morning (Australian broadcast). Following this, I did my part as an Australian citizen and shunned Italian food for a whole month.
Four years later, I muster up the courage to lay my emotions on the line and once again show my support for the team that lit up my life for however many weeks they did.
Question is, who are YOU rooting for at this year's much-hyped soccer showdown????
