Rome

Well, I’ve decided to add another thing to the list of things I will never do again. Watch Rome.
I watched it because I quite like roman history and I’d heard that this new drama was about one of the more interesting bits, which is when Gaius Julius Caesar and Pompei Magnus faced off. The thing that got me interested in that particular piece of is the series called Masters of Rome, written by Colleen McCulloch.
The six books are written about the lives and times of Gaius Marius, Lucius Cornelious Sulla Felix, Julius Caesar all those guys. The humour and dialogue are excellent, and the political maneuvering is actually quite exciting. You can really FEEL the atmosphere that she is trying to create, which is of a great civilization that so many times was on the brink of destruction.
Or you could watch the TV series to see a whole bunch of men and women speaking in (pretty bad) english accents and hurriedly getting out of the togas that the wardrobe department struggled to get them into.
So, if you have a spare month in your reading window, get the series. Well worth it. Far more than watching it on TV.
