Pure Pwnage

May 7th 2007 00:16
The reason that I haven't written about the things I've been reading recently is not because I haven't been reading but because what I have been reading about I am not sure if anyone would be interested in. The Punic Wars and 100 Decisive Battles which I borrowed from my friend Darrell. Thanks mate. Very appreciated. The other thing that I am readng is Karl Barth's Epistle to the Romans. Which is the best theological book I have ever picked up. I understand a little over half of it which I have been told means that I am above average.

But on with the show......

Now, as a bunch of people, canadians don't strike anyone as being funny, interesting or particularly different from americans. I used to think like this too. And then I saw this little online series called Pure Pwnage (yes, ownage is spelt with a P. It is NOT Pawnage, or Pownage. Yes it is because of a typo) and I have to admit, I am now prepared to believe that canadians can produce something which is actually quite funny.

The main character Jeremy is a gamer that wants to go pro. The main character Kyle is making a movie for his film class all about how Jeremy wants to become a pro gamer. Most of the early movies are about how gamers think. That we are simple but very, very complex. Most of the one liners are cheap, but they are very funny. If you're a gamer, you'll get most of the jokes. If you're a non-gamer, you might start to understand why gamers are getting all the jokes and we sometimes talk funny.

Moving aside from the actual series, this site deserves support for a few different reasons. For the first, they are one of the few sites made by nerds that have helped to raise awareness of the creative sides of individuals that have not been recognised by the mainstream of media. These guys have very little equipment, but they do have willingness and charisma. What they have done is help to grow the culture of an online career, making it valid by making it successful.

Personally, I bought me a t-shirt and a bandana, to show my support. there's a bunch of websites out there that are free access that make their money by people buying their stuff and donating. I like to support the good ones by buying something. It's a small bit of help but it all adds up.
