Pages Without Paper

November 30th 2006 11:16
First off, I would like to apologise for the crap review I gave Chart Throb. I should have and could have done a better job. The funny thing is I am not sure that I want to. The book hardly inspired me to try my hardest because it didn't do anything for me. Entertaining? Yes. Poetically inspiring? No.

But anyways, tonight I thought I would write about a couple of my favourite blog sites. To keep things perfectly interesting none of these are Orble pages. Hopefully I don't get my ass kicked for this, but hey, they are good and interesting people.

The first I would like to nail down would be www.benchsaints.blogspot.com. If you want to meet the most offensive christian in the world, this probably isn't him. But he is pretty close in some areas. Perfectly human, very funny and the guy is very open, ready to allow anyone to post a comment. He also replies fairly quickly (within 24 hours) and the dialogue at times is a great way to lose some stress. Go over, say hi. Tell him Trogdor sent you.

The second I enjoy is called jonsjailjournal.blogspot.com. I haven't been there in awhile, but I am looking forward to going back. Jon is an englishman that has been sentenced to time in an American prison (the irony of that is killer, but would have been better if it had been an australian one). The blog is centered around his daily struggles and the characters that surround him. It is also more than slightly political in some areas, especially when dealing with justice and the judicial and penal system in America. Every now and then I have to remind myself, this is a man's life. These people he writes of are real people. These are true events. It makes me happy for what I have, and think about the redeemable nature of man.

The third I only started on recently but had to stifle huge amounts of laughter (I'm ending on a bright note for a change) was a page named www.gaijinsmash.net. The guy who writes it is an african american that is teaching english as a second language in Japan. To be honest, this is the funniest blog I have ever seen on the net. Some of the things that I read I could not believe at all, though I was still laughing my ass off. Fortunately at work today we were visited by one of our sales rep's a japanese dude. I asked him some questions about the blog (especially kanto) and after we worked around my hideous pronunciation he started laughing and then to my horror began to confirm the things I had asked about. But on a serious note, the blog is well written, the children are charming (most of them) and the language and situations are one of a kind.

Go check them out, you've nothing to lose and alot to gain.

Hi JZ...

How are you my friend?

Will come back once I've checked out the 'gaijinsmash' site (gaijin is sooo derogatory)...sounds very cool.
I love Japan and everything Japanese.

Dusk

PS. in case you're wondering why I'm always online this late...my husband has to be away for a while during the weekdays and my children are in bed and this is a very peaceful time to write...work write...but somehow I always end up at Orble!

Hey Dusk,

Doing great, chatting to Nata, putting together a post of my other Orble page (I can multitask a little) and right now replying to you.

I like Japan quite a bit, but not enough I think to pack up and live there teaching english. I've read a few manga, got a series on dvd's watched a few movies, I have my own copies of Zatoichi, The Seven Samurai and The Hidden Fortress. I have read books by Eiji Yoshikawa and Miyamoto Musashi. I also like some J-pop.

Hope to hear from you soon Dusk.

JZ

I am a night owl, that is why I am up.
