Phuo Do - Matriarch of the Monsters
May 18th 2010 02:40
For the next 7 weeks, the LoL Monster will spare all cows, chickens and pigs as he will be turning vegetarian or what he personally calls, going green.
In the past week, my family and I endured a heart-wrenching blow which solely involved the passing of my grandma. Falling victim to a crippling heart attack, she laid virtually helpless in her hospital bed as her fighting spirit diminished slowly but imminently, before our red swollen eyes.
For the next few days, we'd all be seeing ourselves following Chinese tradition and pray for hours at the temple with the monks, for our grandma's spirit to make its way to heaven and join her love/partner in crime, grandpa in holier-than-holy matrimony.
Grandma was a strong-willed woman. She (and grandpa) taught all of her children to work hard for everything in life (whether it be wealth, happiness or the last boiled egg on Chinese New Year) and she instilled family values in all of us, to always stick together and love each other unconditionally. And you know what, we do.
An older sibling of mine wrote this very beautiful eulogy for her and I'd like to share it with all of you.
today is our last day with you
today we say goodbye to you
today is really happening
and we wish it weren’t true
three days have passed
we held back tears for you
but today is your last day
it’s time to fly up and away
tears will fall down our faces
but please don’t turn back, okay?
a gold chariot awaits with your name
grandpa is waiting to be together again
don’t feel sad to leave us now
you know that we love you, please don’t stay
some days we’ll be sad
and some days we’ll just smile
and remember all the good times
that we all once shared
thank you for letting us spend
your final hours there beside you
we know you’ll be in a better place
where noone can ever hurt you
we’re not ready to let you go
but know that we have to
this is our last goodbye
we have no tears left to cry
every day we will think of you
every day we will miss you
forever is for fairytales
but we will never forget you
grandmother, we love you
today we say goodbye to you
today is really happening
and we wish it weren’t true
three days have passed
we held back tears for you
but today is your last day
tears will fall down our faces
but please don’t turn back, okay?

I hope that for all my female readers, it has somehow struck a chord somewhere in your hearts and souls and for my male readers, I hope you've finally put your tissues to good use.
I almost forgot to mention my reasoning for converting to non-slaughtered-meatism. As part of the 'passing ritual' in Chinese culture, we must honour our Grandma by sacrificing our love for meat in order for the balance of life to remain pure until her trek to Asian Arcardia is complete.
So here's to you grandma - may you eternally rest in peace and reunite with our beloved grandpa in the place where Buddha has taken permanent sick leave. It'll be because of you, that I finally lose my target weight.
