Healing the World - One Year Later
June 25th 2010 01:16
The wounds still feel quite fresh. The heartache still beats in and out from time to time. I still remember the day Michael Jackson passed quite vividly.
Sitting at my desk, applying for random jobs then a friend of mine exclaims, "Oh my god, Farrah Fawcett AND Michael Jackson died." At that very moment, the life of me flushed out like a vicious waterfall. It's exactly like that feeling you get when someone tells you, "Sorry we're out of cheese. But try our vegetarian burger." Utter devastation.
I suppose this post will act as my own personal eulogy for the King of Pop, as I really couldn't pull myself together and make one last year. And in the midst of seeking employment - it seemed like nothing was going my way.
Just to let you guys know how affected I was by this news, I went to see Transformers 2 during this awful period and when it came to that scene when Optimus Prime is impaled by an enemy robot's bionic blade, a wave of unsolicited emotion took me over and before you know it, my eyes are streaming upon nature's call. The right blend of orchestral tension, emotional climax and special effects can do the most amazing of things, I believe.
So the world will unite once again today to remember the legend that was, Michael Jackson. My first experience with his music stemmed from one Christmas morning when my Dad video recorded the kids dancing uncontrollably to Mr. Jackson's 'Thriller' album. As my head had grown to the size of a full-grown watermelon, co-ordination was severely lacking. Imagine a 5-foot lollipop that constantly rammed itself into inanimate objects due to having an imbalanced posture. Forget trying to do a moonwalk, standing in one position was my primary goal.
An musical eccentric artist/genius in one light, a misunderstood human-being in another, nobody will ever know why this tragedy came to existence, but his body of work speaks volumes for itself. He essentially changed the world in more ways than the average person may ever do in a few lifetimes. His legacy is etched into history for eternity and will be remembered by millions for many decades after.
Before I sign off and spend my next handful of hours indulging in Jackson-flavoured goodness, I'd like all of you to head OVER HERE and check out the tribute video (along with our cover version of 'Heal The World') my team and I put together for MJ on the glorious Youtube. Rate it, like it, share it, comment it - do what you will folks. Either way show some love for the legend that is Michael Jackson and fans (like me) worldwide.
And remember to follow the LoL monster on twitter. He's getting lonely.
"For the King of Pop."
