Stop the blogger/writer/journo war

OK, so I just got out of a day-long conference on the future of journalism (in big media corporations). Basically, there is none. That depresses me because that's how I pay my mortgage. There was much debate about if a blogger is a journalist and if a journalist blogs can that be counted as reportage. Does it really matter? News is news is news is news. No matter who writes it or makes it, if it is new and people are talking about it - it's news. So why, then, do some crusty old writers with stains on their ties still persist to tell everyone what the news should be and that they are the only ones who can do that? Sure, they say that sometimes there is news that we need to know, not necessarily what we want to know. Ok, so that's calling is disinterested cows mastercating the daily chaff of celebrity gossip and superficial infotainment. I rekon if we need to know it, we will be interested in it, and if we are not it is the failing of those people who are delivering (even that grates) that news to us. Am I right, or do I have a stain on my tie?
