Bring Me a Dream.....

One of the most bizare series I've ever picked up would be the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. The main character Morpheus, Dream, The Sandman, etc is essentially an anthropromorphic personification who runs the realm of dreams. This is also our imaginations, daydreams, hopes, aspirations and other like things.
Aside from having some amazing powers the character himself also has an actual character. He shows love, hate, anger, regret, resolve and melancholy. Not the happiest guy in the world but to a great degree this makes sense. Our hopes and aspirations are the most sobering thing about who we are. They give us a line we hold to, a minimum we expect. Which puts the emotional scale of Lord Dream into quite a perspective.
Story wise Gaiman is among the top five of going to twist your head around in a good way. The first comic of the Sandman features him confronting someone that was consumed by dreams (which in itself is worthy of a post which might be done later sometime), fighting a demon of hell and then walking out through the legions of lucifer and confronting a man that seeks to twist the dreams of others.
His other stories are breathtaking in their ability to manipulate a readers mind. Already I have a few thoughts on my next posts. I might just cheat and write about his series for the next couple of weeks. Granted I am going to have to go out and BUY the last few I don't already have. What a tragedy.
What other artists do you know of that can make you actually THINK about their storylines?
